THE PROBLEM
Through Africa20twenty, Zeiss recognised the pressing problem - an Africa in the shadows of cataract-induced blindness. The difficulties experienced by ordinary South Africans who are grappling with cataract blindness, as well as the capable individuals eager to aid them that are not able because of their restricted access to crucial specialised healthcare equipment.
A CALLING
For Zeiss the calling emerged before the COVID-19 pandemic during OSSA in 2018 - where they felt the a resounding echo of Africa20twenty's mission. They understood that their unique position could effect change. They made the decision to leverage their optical expertise not just for our non-profit, but to assist to restore sight, reconnect lives, and spark hope across the African continent.
THEIR CONTRIBUTION
By sponsoring state-of-the-art Zeiss Surgical Microscope Lumera 300, Zeiss IOL Master, Zeiss Slitlamp, Zeiss Intraocular Lenses (Prieska Project specific), Zeiss Surgical Microscope Lumera 300 (Additional Microscope for Prieska Project), they became one of the catalysts for this project.
Their solution is more than a donation: it's the provision of a critical tool that enables
volunteering surgeons like Dr. Johann and Dr. Moodley to perform intricate procedures
in the Mobile Operating theatre with precision.
Now we are able to restore sight in any remote location we are called to.

Zeiss seamlessly integrated with our plans at Africa20twenty. Their sponsored microscopes will empower our medical teams to do much needed surgical procedures.
Africa20twenty's long term plan is to equip various Mobile Operating Units with the all tools necessary to bring clear vision to lives and to transform each 20 minute surgery into
a moment of profound change.
